Private Tree Permit Application
IMPORTANT: The City has implemented a new private tree by-law effective April 19, 2022. All applications received will be subject to the new by-law process and requirements, as well as the new fee structure. Purpose
The destruction or removal or injury of trees on private property may be prohibited under the Private Tree By-law unless authorized by a tree permit. For information on the permit application process and the document requirements of this application please visit our Forest Protection & Tree Permits page.
If your proposed work includes a swimming pool or hot tub, do not use this application. Please use the Combined Residential Swimming Pool application form.
Get your documents ready before you begin!
We encourage you to gather all supporting documents before you begin. Submitting your documents online, with the application will save time in the initial review and ensure the documents are associated with the correct application. The preferred format for electronic documents is PDF.
Some or all of the following may be required to support your application:
- Arborist Report and Tree Preservation Plan
- Tree Inventory List of Details and Tree Location Drawing or Sketch
- Tree Replacement Plan
- Owner's Authorization Form Appendix A (if applying on the owners' behalf)
- Letter of consent (where applying to remove or injure a boundary tree or a tree you do not own)
An application is not considered complete until the City of Burlington has received all required documents and permit fees. Please note that a completed application is not a permit, or guarantee that a permit will be issued. This form collects personal information under the authority of the Municipal Act, 2001. The information will be used for the primary purpose of processing a permit application under the Private Tree By-law 40-2022.
