Low-Income Seniors and Persons with Disabilities Property Tax Reduction Program

To qualify:

All applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be the assessed owner and occupant of a residential property in the City of Burlington for at least one year before the application is submitted.
Property is owner’s principal residence.
Owner or spouse is a registered owner(s) of only one property in the City of Burlington.

Program specifications:

No more than one reduction shall be granted on a property in a given year.
An application must be submitted each year by December 31.
Have paid property taxes in full.
As a reminder - No refunds will be issued. Reduction of $575 will be applied to the property tax account after the September installment.

Low-Income Seniors:

Owner and/or spouse must:

Be 65 years of age or older.
Be in receipt of the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) pursuant to the Old Age Security Act.
Submit prior year T4A(OAS) slip reflecting payments in Box 21 or GIS Entitlement letter.

Low-Income Persons with Disabilities:

Owner is in receipt of income support paid under the Ontario Disability Support Program Act.
Submit prior year T5007 Statement of Benefits reflecting payment in Box 11.
Submit confirmation from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services indicating receipt of income support under the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).
